Health & Wellbeing Events

Does your back feel stiff after sitting at a desk, driving or travelling? Perhaps you notice an ache after gardening, walking or spending time on your feet.

Or maybe you’re already active and want to keep your spine strong, mobile and moving well for the sports and activities you enjoy.

Join us at Strength & Soul, in Elsrickle, for a Saturday morning class dedicated to looking after your spine.

Your spine is designed to move in different directions, yet everyday habits and activities don’t always give it the movement or strength it needs.

This isn’t just about stretching your back. We’ll explore how your spine moves, release areas of tension and build strength and stability to support you in everyday life.

What can you expect?

We’ll combine Yoga Therapy, mobility, strength, gentle release techniques, breathing and relaxation.

Throughout the hour, we’ll explore:

• Mobility: Moving your spine in different directions to explore and improve your available range of movement.

• Strength & Stability: Building strength through your back, core and surrounding muscles to support everyday movement.

• Release & Recovery: Exploring ways to ease muscular tension and give your body time to relax.

You’ll leave with a better understanding of how your spine moves and a few practical exercises you can continue using at home.

Who is it for?

Whether you’re experiencing everyday stiffness or recurring discomfort, returning to movement after a break, or already enjoying walking, running, golf, cycling or other activities, you’re very welcome.

You don’t need to be flexible or have any previous yoga experience.

60 MINUTES FOR STRONG, MOBILE HIPS

Saturday 31 October | 8–9am | Elsrickle

Do your hips feel stiff when you get up after sitting? Perhaps you notice an ache after walking, gardening or driving, or find certain movements more difficult than they used to be.

Join me for a one-off Saturday morning class at Strength & Soul, Elrickle, near Biggar, focusing on how your hips move and the muscles that support them.

This isn’t just an hour of hip stretches.

We’ll combine Yoga Therapy, mobility, strengthening and release techniques to explore how your hips move, where you might feel restricted and how to build strength and control.

You’ll also take away a few practical exercises you can continue using at home.

Acupressure & Deep Rest: Back Hips & Pelvis

Thursday 12 November | 7–8.30pm | The Steading, Elsrickle | £20

This month – Cold mornings, long drives and more time sitting at your desk or on the sofa. Your back and hips are feeling it.

We’ll work with acupressure points around the lower back, hips and sacrum, gentle movement to ease stiffness, and supported postures that let your back rest without having to stretch or work harder.

This is for you if:

• Your back feels stiff first thing and takes a while to loosen
• Stretching helps for a little while, but the tension keeps coming back
• Your hips feel tight and your lower back is uncomfortable after sitting.

What to expect: Your mat is set up for you with a bolster, blankets and everything you need, so you don’t need to bring anything. Wear something warm and comfy. No yoga experience needed, and you don’t need to be flexible.

Who runs it: Jo Buchan is a yoga therapist and Ayurvedic practitioner with over 13 years’ clinical experience, working with people with back, hip and joint pain at Strength & Soul in Elsrickle.

Acupressure & Deep Rest usually runs on the first Thursday of the month, with a different focus each time.
